Those who stayed took advantage of the economic boom. For some, there´s still time to jump on the band wagon. China Reverse looks behind the facade of financial success. KICK OUT YOUR BOSS

AT 2014, 90 min, Elisabeth Scharang

197 million unemployed people and the widespread phenomenon of physical or mental collapse known as burnout are arguments enough to find alternatives to economic systems whose only goal is the singleminded pursuit of proft maximization.

This documentary gets right into the middle of the current discussions and demonstrates with the help of three examples in Brazil, Serbia and Austria how such systems can work in different ways: workers’ participation, profit-sharing, abolition of hierarchy – they all work without employees having to fear the loss of their livelihood or wage cuts.

Elektro Moskva

AT 2013, 90 min, Elena Tikhonova & Dominik Spritzendorfer

ELEKTRO MOSKVA (Electro Moscow) is an essayistic documentary about the Soviet electronic age and its legacy. The story begins with the inventor of the world’s first electronic instrument, Leon Theremin, unveiling the KGB’s huge pile of fascinating devices, some of which were musical. They all came into existence as a by-product of a rampant defense industry. Nowadays, those aged and abandoned ‘musical coffins’, as solidly made as a Kalashnikov, are being recycled and reinterpreted by the post-Soviet generations of musicians, sound collectors and circuit benders. The story of the Soviet synthesizers as an allegory to the everyday life under the Soviet system: nothing works, but you have to make the best out of it. An electronic fairy tale about the inventive spirit of the free mind inside the iron curtain- and beyond.

Oh Yeah, She Performs!

AT 2012, 101 min, Mirjam Unger

The film revolves around the work of these four women, portraying subtle emotions that hint at the various identities of these female musicians and the struggle to reconcile private and public personalities. The editing style connects these very different characters and highlights the dynamic plot and the change in tempo driven by the beat. A break, a bridge, a riff, a rhyme, a glint in the eye, stage fright: flashes leading to the next snapshot of GUSTAV, CLARA LUZIA, TERESA ROTSCHOPF and LUISE POP in their element: music.
